The Biofield: The Missing Connection Between Healing and Consciousness
Today's featured article is another piece by Dr. Shamini Jain, however this time we are privileged to hear Shamini share her wisdom and research as a guest on a podcast.
On this podcast episode of Sounds True: Insights at the Edge by Tami Simon, Dr. Jain gives us a great overview of the science behind the biofield, how Reiki works and shares a beautifully inspiring story of recovery through energy work.
We highly encourage you to listen to the whole podcast if you enjoy listening while multitasking, going on a walk or on a commute. The Key
To articulate Shamini’s explanation of the missing link between healing and consciousness, it begins with understanding the biofield. She explains that the biofield can be described as fields of energy and information that guides our health. We can sense our biofield and the biofield of others because biofields are everywhere from the smallest cell, to our own body, the planet Earth and beyond. This concept is similarly explored in Spirit Encounters: Introduction to Energy Within and Around Us.
Dr. Jain describes Reiki as a type of biofield therapy that works with the body’s energy field to stimulate a healing response. Reiki healers are a conduit for the biofield/ universal life force energy to flow through them to the client. By staying open and grounded, they sense where energy is and isn't flowing based on the balances and imbalances of energy in the body. Practitioners understand that this is not their own energy, as they are the facilitators of the healing energy and it is the individual that does the healing for themselves within the Reiki energy. When one engages in biofield therapy, it allows energy to move to produce the salutogenetic response; a health promoting response that is innate in our bodies.
Surrendering to something beyond our culturally conditioned minds, allows us to be more open to our own inner healing. Releasing habitual patterns that are no longer serving us creates greater space for healing to occur and for us to move forward.
